What is the interest rate?​

AER/Gross (variable)

• We work out the interest we’ll pay on your account each day.
• We pay interest into your account each month. We’ll do this on the monthly anniversary of the day you opened your account

No interest is paid on balances above £4,000.

Can Santander change the interest rate?​

Yes, we can change the interest rate on this account as explained in the general terms.

What would the estimated balance be after 12 and 24 months based on a £1,000 deposit? ​

To work out the estimated balance, we’ve assumed that: 

• The account is opened and the initial payment into the account is made on the first day of the month.
• You don’t pay in any more money or take any out.
• There is no change to the interest rate other than as set out in the table above. 

These illustrations are only examples and don’t take into account individual circumstances.​

How do I open and manage my account?​

Eligibility

You can have an account in your sole name. You must be 18 or over, live in the UK and have a Santander Edge or Santander Edge Explorer current account.

You can have a maximum of 3 accounts – 1 for each Santander Edge current account you have (in your sole name or that you hold jointly with someone else) and Edge Explorer current account you hold (in your sole name).

If you don’t keep to these terms, we might switch your account to an Everyday Saver. Because this is an online account, you’ll need to sign up for Online and Mobile Banking, if you haven’t already.

How to open the account

You can apply for an account in branch or online.

Managing the account 

You can only manage your account using Online or Mobile Banking.

Paying money in 

• Minimum balance: £1.
• You can only pay money into your account online from your Santander Edge or Santander Edge Explorer current account. 

Can I withdraw money?​

Yes, you can take money out of the account using Online or Mobile Banking only.

Tell us if you change your mind

You can close your account at any time during your ‘cancellation period’ – we won’t charge you for it. This is 14 days, starting the day after we confirmed your account is open.

If you do this, we’ll return your money together with any interest we owe you. We’ll do this as soon as we can (and within 30 days from when you tell us). You can also close your account at any other time outside this cancellation period – we won’t charge you. 

Tax status

We pay interest without taking off income tax. This is known as ‘gross’ and the interest rate we give you reflects this. If the total interest you receive in a tax year is more than any Personal Savings Allowance that applies to you, you may have to pay tax on it. You’ll need to do this directly with HMRC.

We'll send you a yearly statement in April. We'll add it to your mailbox in Mobile Banking. In Online Banking, you can find it in your 'Statements and documents'.

You can update your paper-free preferences:

• through Mobile and Online Banking
• by visiting us in your local branch
• by giving us a call.

You can ask for paper statements in branch, by phone or Chat.

You can also ask for your statements in an alternative format, such as braille.
