What is travel insurance?
Travel insurance gives you extra protection while you’re travelling. It gives you peace of mind and covers you in case things go wrong when you least expect them.
Travel insurance includes a range of things. From minor problems, such as missed airline connections and delayed luggage, to more serious and costly issues. These include injuries or major illness that could lead to expensive fees if you need treatment abroad.
You can choose from single trip or annual travel insurance, which gives you multi trip cover. You can add extras if you need it, including winter sports, cruise and business cover. These are available for an extra cost.

Who needs travel insurance?
Travel insurance gives you peace of mind in case something unexpected happens. Having an accident abroad, losing your passport or being delayed can be expensive to deal with. You might need legal support if you’re injured and if it wasn’t your fault. It’s important you and your family are all covered and have that added reassurance.
Types of travel insurance
Santander Travel Insurance includes
- Unlimited medical expenses if you’re injured or are ill abroad
- Up to £5,000 if you have to cancel or cut short your holiday. This may be because of circumstances you weren’t aware of when you took out the policy
- Personal property of up to £2,000 (a single item limit of £300 applies) that is lost, stolen or damaged. You're not covered for money, passports or valuables left unattended (unless locked away)
- Essential items of clothing, toiletries or medication of up to £200 if your bags are delayed by the airline or carrier for 12 hours or more
- Overseas legal expenses up to £25,000 if your injury is caused by a third party
- Travel delay payment of £20 (up to £250) for every 12-hour delay to public transport, including flight delays
What you’re not covered for
- If you travel against your doctor’s advice, you must tell Chubb about your medical conditions. Please do this at the time you buy your policy or if you have any health changes before you travel
- For travel to an area where the FCDO has advised against all travel or all but essential travel (except for cancellation claims)
- Financial failure of your travel provider or organiser
- A cancellation claim for illness without evidence
