Santander’s free four-year railcard goes digital to help students and apprentices on their journey

  • Santander’s 1|2|3 Student Current Account1 is available to students and apprentices (levels four to seven) 
  • Free four-year Santander 16-25 Railcard, now also available in a digital format (images attached), saves students an average of £182 a year2 on standard rail fares 
  • Guaranteed interest-free overdraft of £1,500 in the first three years, with potential to increase to £1,800 in year four, and up to £2,000 in future years (subject to status) 

As we enter exam results season, Santander UK is pleased to confirm that for the first time, it will offer students and apprentices the option to get a free, digital, four-year, Santander 16-25 Railcard as part of their application for a new 1I2I3 Student Current Account. The digital Santander 16-25 Railcard, available through the Railcard App3, gives students and apprentices (levels four to seven) a third off most rail fares across Great Britain, saving an average of £728 over the course of the four-years.

Santander’s 1|2|3 Student Current Account is available to open online and to all students, regardless of their year of study4. In addition to the free four-year Railcard, the Santander account offers:  

  • A guaranteed interest-free overdraft of £1,500 in the first year of study for customers accepted for the Santander 1|2|3 Student Account. This can increase up to £1,800 in the fourth year and up to £2,000 in the fifth year (subject to status, and if students continue with their studies); 
  • Cashback, vouchers, prize draws and other offers available through our free rewards program, Santander Boosts
  • Personalised spending analysis to help customers stay on top of their spending through My Money Manager
  • A contactless debit card, digital banking (Mobile Banking app and Online Banking) and contactless payments with an Apple, Android or Samsung device; 
  • Easy switching to Santander with the Current Account Switch Service;
