North Shields-based global satellite communications business Satcom Global has unveiled plans to expand into new international markets through the roll-out of its latest technology, AuraNow VSAT, which is supported by funding from Santander UK.

Santander UK has provided eight-figure funding to support Satcom Global’s continued investment in its innovative flexible satellite communications service, and expansion into new market sectors and territories.

Satcom Global provides critical satellite communications solutions, including airtime and hardware, to customers operating in remote locations and situations where conventional phone coverage is unavailable, such as on cargo ships and fishing fleets. It also supplies land-based organisations, such as emergency services and aid organisations, with satellite phones and other emergency communications infrastructure.

In the past, Satcom Global’s offering focused on the provision and installation of third party airtime and communications hardware, however, its latest technology, AuraNow VSAT, has revolutionised the business. Satcom Global AuraNow, also available in a reseller model branded VNO Elite, enables the satellite communications provider to offer unprecedented levels of flexibility to the maritime satellite communications market. The unique service opens up a host of new customers and markets to Satcom Global throughout the world.

Propelled by the anticipated growth that its latest technology will bring, Satcom Global is targeting a 30% revenue increase for 2024. The business was established in 2001 and acquired by Broadband Satellite Services (BSS) in 2013.

Ian Robinson, CEO at Satcom Global, said: “We’re delighted to receive funding support from Santander UK. It allows us to pursue our ambitious plans for global expansion and growth into new markets with our continued investment in the development of our innovative very small aperture terminal (VSAT) technology platforms and broadband satellite services.”

Laura Moorhouse, Relationship Director at Santander UK, said: “Satcom Global provides innovative satellite communications solutions to the global maritime industry and we are delighted to support its international growth plans. The business is a brilliant representation of the invention and technical excellence found within the business community in the UK’s North East.”
