Santander UK has today officially opened its new Belfast HQ, at City Quays 3, 25 years after its predecessor, Abbey National, first set up base in the city.
Santander is the first organisation to take up residence in the City Quays 3 site, following a 20-week refit across the two floors that it will call home. City Quays 3 will house more than 560 people, the majority of whom speak directly to Santander’s customers every day, helping over 150,000 every month on the phone, on social media and on live chat.
Cutting the ribbon at the opening, Enrique Alvarez, CEO of Retail and Business Banking, Santander UK said: “It’s fantastic to be here today to celebrate the opening of our new home, City Quays 3. The work of the people based here is at the very heart of what we at Santander stand for – talking to our customers every day to help, support and advise them.”
Colleagues from Belfast attended the opening, some of whom had been with the bank from when it first set up base in Belfast, in Mays Meadow, in March 1999.
One such colleague, Kerry Beggs, began her career with the bank in March 1999 as a Customer Service Adviser and is now Santander UK’s Head of Voice Interactions.
Commenting on the day, Kerry said:
“It feels like a lifetime ago since I proudly took up my role as ‘customer service adviser’ and walked through the doors of our then ‘new’ residence, Mays Meadow. It’s great to see so many people come together to mark the next chapter in Santander’s story, not just celebrating the amazing new site but also a quarter of a century of Santander’s roots in Belfast.”
