From today (9 September) new Santander current account customers can get £36 when they open a Santander Edge current account, covering the normal £3 monthly account fee for a year1 – without having to switch. The Santander Edge current account allows customers to earn up to £20 a month in cashback as well as offering holders access to the Edge Saver paying 6.00% AER on balances up to £4,000.

The offer is open to both new and existing customers who do not currently hold a Santander current account. Customers do not need to use the Current Account Switch Service to be eligible for the offer1.

Santander’s Edge current account offers a range of features designed to help customers make their money go further, including up to £20 monthly cashback2. This includes up to £10 cashback from council tax, broadband, and mobile phone bills paid by direct debit - along with a further £10 cashback from essential debit card spending at supermarkets and on travel, including fuel and train tickets. The account also enables customers to enjoy fee-free spending abroad when using their Santander Edge debit card, free use of Santander ATMs overseas and in-app money management insights through My Money Manager.

Edge customers also benefit from access to the Santander Edge Saver, an easy access account which pays 6.00% AER / 5.84% gross (variable) interest on balances up to £4,000. Santander Edge Saver customers can earn up to £233.60 a year in interest3 and as an easy access account, customers can withdraw and deposit funds when they like.

To qualify for the £36 payment customers must:

  • Open a Santander Edge current account between 9 September and 7 October 2024.
  • Deposit £500 into the account within 30 days of opening.
  • The account must remain open on the day Santander pays the £36 incentive into the account.

Customers who already hold a Santander current account on 8 September 2024 are not eligible for this offer, as well as customers who have previously received an incentive payment to open a Santander Edge current account.

  1. The £36 is a one-off payment paid in full directly into the eligible Santander Edge current account within 60 days of opening. Customer will continue to pay the £3 monthly fee to maintain the account.
  2. Customers must pay in £500 a month and have two active direct debits to benefit from earning monthly cashback.
  3. £233.60 year in interest is based on £4,000 held in the Edge Saver for 12 months from opening at 6.00% AER / 5.84% gross (variable). This includes the 1.50% AER / 1.49% gross (variable) bonus rate which applies for the first 12 months from opening.
