Mogford Limited, the Oxford-based independent luxury hotel and restaurant group, is set to complete a total refurbishment following £8.5 million in funding from Santander Corporate & Commercial.
Mogford Limited was founded in 1987 by restaurateur Jeremy Mogford who has a long history of owning and managing successful hotels and restaurants. Jeremy founded Browns Restaurant in 1973 with then-business partner John Mayhew, before selling the chain in 1996 to Bass Brewery.
The refurbishment includes the Old Parsonage Hotel & Grill, Gee's Restaurant, the Old Bank Hotel and Quod Restaurant. Part of the refurbishment works at the five-star Old Bank Hotel involves the creation of a spectacular new rooftop room with terrace, which will overlook the high street and Oxford's famous skyline; the spire of St Mary’s Church, the Radcliffe Camera, the Sheldonian Theatre and All Souls College quad. Located on Oxford’s high street, Old Bank Hotel restaurant Quod, decorated with Mr Mogford’s personal art collection, is considered Oxford’s busiest restaurant.
Listed in Condé Nast Traveller’s Top Hotels in the UK, The Old Parsonage Hotel is also located in central Oxford and is a stylish five-star hotel in a 17th century old parsonage. Gee’s Restaurant offers locals and visitors a uniquely rustic, Mediterranean dining experience set in an iconic Victorian Glasshouse.
The £8.5m funding from Santander Corporate & Commercial has allowed Mr Mogford to complete the refurbishment of all his establishments. The last phase has been a complete refurbishment of the Old Bank Hotel and Quod Restaurant which has taken three years and has included the complete renewal of all bedrooms, the restaurant, and public areas.
Jeremy Mogford, Owner, Mogford Limited, said: “The refurbishment means we can continue to offer customers the highest possible standard and level of service. We are incredibly excited about the new rooftop bedroom at The Old Bank, which is the first of its kind in Oxford and will no doubt be very popular. The team at Santander really understands our business and the sector in which we operate so their support has been invaluable throughout this process.”
Nigel Chivers, Relationship Director, Santander Corporate & Commercial, said: “Mogford’s hotels and restaurants are premier destinations in Oxford and are constantly striving to remain at the top. The funding from Santander has allowed them to complete the refurbishment across the group and continue to offer the extremely high standards that their customers are used to. We look forward to continuing to work with Jeremy and the team.”
