MET Medical Ltd, a St Albans based private ambulance service, has purchased six additional emergency response vehicles and hired 20 new staff following £300,000 funding from Santander Business Banking. MET Medical was established in 2014 by Dave Hawkins as a private ambulance service to carry out urgent, routine and emergency ambulance transfers from hospitals, care homes and private residences.
The company supplies ambulances, paramedics, technicians, nurses and trains student paramedics. It also provides ambulances and medical services to event organisers across the UK and Europe. In 2016, MET Medical achieved Care Quality Commission (CQC) status, which enabled it to scale the business considerably and target the NHS, private hospitals and insurance companies.
In 2017, the turnover of MET Medical was £180,000, rising to £1 million in 2018 and is projected to reach £2.5 million by financial year end 2019. The £300,000 funding from Santander Business Banking will allow MET Medical to focus on its aggressive growth strategy. MET Medical now employs 140 staff on a contract basis, allowing it to grow and take on more new business.
Dave Hawkins, Founder, MET Medical, said: “We have grown substantially in the last few years, from a start up to an established small business expanding by the day. The support Santander has shown us from the very beginning and through the University programme has been invaluable. They help us achieve our ambitions and work closely with us throughout our journey as a business.”
Philip Briden, Relationship Director, Santander Business Banking, said: “At Santander we strive to help people and businesses prosper and MET Medical is an example of a company we have really seen thrive. Dave impressed us from the outset with his commercial vision and it has been a pleasure to work with him. We look forward to seeing what is next for this exciting business.”
