The Friends of Capel Manor Primary School (CMPS) have received a £5,000 grant to fund an outdoor reading garden for their pupils and the school community.

The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation, which offers Discovery Grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

The Friends of Capel Manor Primary school provides enrichment activities and enhanced learning experiences for all children at the school. The group organises fundraisers such as quiz nights, cake sales and fairs to help raise money for equipment and resources to enhance the educational environment. The grant will be used to provide an outdoor reading garden for all pupils, with the children themselves contributing to the design and layout.

Mrs T Kilkenny, Head Teacher of the school, said: “We want to promote an enjoyment of reading at every opportunity and know our children will love reading in the garden and this will help them to be more creative. We are grateful to Anna Lettieri from our local bank branch and the Santander Foundation for their kindness.”

Anna Lettieri, Customer Service Adviser at Santander’s Enfield Market Chambers branch said: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK. Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting Capel Manor Primary School’s reading garden and hope the donation makes a real difference to the children.”
