Being responsible, in everything we do

Our ambition

Ethics are integral to prosperous businesses and society. They are a clear priority in how customers choose their bank.

Santander UK is committed to being a fair and responsible bank. At the heart of this is fair treatment of our customers. We deal with fraud or crimes against our customers as a priority. A key focus is raising customer awareness of financial crime. We are determined to uphold the highest ethical standards.

We will promote human rights and ensure a responsible corporate culture.

Tackling financial crime, bribery and corruption

Our strategy seeks to deter, detect and disrupt financial crime. Our people receive mandatory fighting financial crime training. We work to raise awareness through our anti-bribery and corruption day. We continue to enhance our processes for anti-bribery and corruption. Our requirements ensure we comply with all legal obligations.

Focus on tackling financial crime

We strengthened our financial crime strategy. We will continue to build our framework to protect our customers.

Ethical supply chain

Our Human Rights policy sets out our commitment to protect human rights. Based on the UN Guiding Principles, it sets out our opposition to:

  • Forced labour

  • Child exploitation

We’ve adopted this policy to strengthen our commitment to tackling human rights.

The Modern Slavery Act was introduced in 2015. Since then, we’ve reviewed how we can prevent Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking (MSHT). Our key focus areas are:

  • Customer due diligence

  • Collaboration and information sharing

  • The risk from third-party suppliers

  • Employee training

We recognise that the business response to MSHT should always improve. We welcome feedback to help strengthen and develop our strategy in this area.
