Santander hits play to support STV’s growth plans
STV Group
STV Group is home to Scotland’s leading commercial broadcaster, STV. In addition, the group includes a production company, STV Studios, and a growing streaming service, STV Player. Headquartered in Glasgow, STV has bases across Scotland and London.
The Scottish TV channel gives viewers a huge range of TV shows, news, entertainment and drama. Viewers can stream an extensive range of free content from the UK and around the world via free on demand app, STV Player.
STV Studios is a family of 24 production companies, who work together to produce award-winning content for national broadcasters. In the past they've produced shows for BBC One and Two, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BBC Scotland, Discovery, VH1/MTV, AppleTV+, discovery+ and Sky One.
STV Group plc joined Santander in 2014 through an initial funding deal. Since then, we’ve worked with them to support their ambitious growth plans.
With our support, STV Group plc have focused on a strategy to diversify their income. They’re committed to achieving 50% of their operating profit from outside traditional broadcasting by the end of 2023. They’re on track to deliver this, supported by strong growth in their Digital and Studios divisions.
We’ve worked closely with Santander for several years. We highly value their genuine interest in our business and their support in the successful delivery of our strategic growth plans. Most recently, their team effectively delivered on our various requests linked with our acquisition of Greenbird Media, within the tight timescales. We look forward to a continued successful working relationship as we pursue our growth targets.

Helped by our knowledge and financing, they were recently able to purchase Greenbird media, at a cost of £24 million. That means they now have 24 production companies. It's a boost to their objective to be the UK’s leading national and regional producer.
